Answers to the most common questions about 3D printing
Print time varies significantly depending on part size, complexity, desired quality, and chosen material. Small parts may take just a few hours, while larger or high-resolution objects can take several days.
PLA is the easiest material to print, biodegradable, and ideal for prototypes and decorative parts. PETG offers greater mechanical and chemical resistance, ideal for functional parts. ABS is more durable and heat-resistant but requires a controlled environment for printing. Check our materials guide for more details.
Yes! With the right material and settings, 3D printed parts can be very strong. Part orientation during printing, infill density, and chosen material significantly influence strength. Materials like PETG, ABS, and Nylon offer excellent mechanical resistance.
We don't recommend it. Although technically food-safe materials exist, the FDM process creates micropores where bacteria can accumulate. For food applications, we recommend specialized consultancy on appropriate materials and specific surface treatments.
Typical FDM printing has tolerances of ±0.2mm to ±0.5mm, depending on printer calibration, material, and part geometry. For applications requiring precise fits, these tolerances should be considered in design, adjusting hole dimensions and assembly clearances.
The price of a 3D print depends on the size, material, print quality and quantity. Small PLA parts can start from €5, while larger projects or special materials cost more. At Douro Make, you can get an instant quote online by uploading your 3D file, or request a custom quote with a 24-hour response.
FDM 3D printing works by melting a plastic filament and depositing it layer by layer to build a three-dimensional object. The process starts with a digital model (STL, OBJ or 3MF file), which is sliced into hundreds of thin layers by specialized software. The printer follows these instructions to create the part, layer by layer, from bottom to top.
Yes! Douro Make accepts online orders from all over Portugal. Simply upload your 3D file to our instant quote tool to get the price immediately, or submit a quote request for custom projects. We ship across mainland Portugal with delivery times starting from 3 business days.
Filament 3D printing (FDM) uses plastics like PLA, PETG and ABS melted and deposited in layers. It's ideal for functional parts, prototypes and medium to large decorative objects. Resin printing (SLA/DLP) uses liquid resin cured by UV light, offering greater detail and smoother surfaces, ideal for miniatures and jewellery. At Douro Make, we use professional FDM technology for the best balance of quality, strength and price.
We accept files in STL, OBJ, 3MF and STEP formats. If you have an idea but no 3D file, don't worry — send us images, sketches or a description of what you need and our team will help develop the model.
Absolutely! 3D printing is perfect for creating unique, personalized gifts. Photo lightboxes, 3D frames, custom figurines, name keychains, themed decorative pieces and much more. At Douro Make, we specialize in custom gifts that surprise — from birthdays to weddings and Christmas.
Delivery time depends on the complexity and quantity of parts. After payment confirmation, simple parts are ready in 1 to 3 business days, with an additional 1 to 2 days shipping for mainland Portugal. For larger projects or bulk orders, the timeline can vary between 5 to 10 business days. We also offer express delivery options.
Yes, 3D printing is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to create prototypes. It allows testing shapes, fits and functionality before investing in industrial production. At Douro Make, we help companies and inventors validate their designs with functional prototypes in just a few days.
Yes! We offer 3D printing services for businesses, including custom corporate gifts, trophies, office decorations, functional prototypes and replacement parts. We have experience in 3D branding for marketing campaigns and corporate events.
